India's interests in bio-diversity

India has a "Biological Diversity Act" which aims to protect the rich biodiversity of their country. Who knew?

"An Act to provide for conservation of biological diversity, sustainable use of its
components and fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising out of the use of
biological resources, knowledge and for matters connected therewith or incidental
thereto.
Whereas India is rich in biological diversity and associated traditional and contemporary
knowledge system relating thereto..."

It seems that this act is being used as the basis of a lawsuit against a GMO company for developing a GM eggplant without asking permission. Go India!

Nestle wants you to be suspicious of organics...

Love this snarky evaluation of Nestle's new business enterprise: "neutraceuticals."

"So, it appears the idea is that you eat Nestlé's highly processed food until you contract diabetes or another related disease, at which point you will switch to their neutraceutical products to manage the illness. It really is the perfect business model."
